Clarifications on those New Customs Declarations for Travel to South Africa

According to Safari Club International, its Hunter Information Service clarified new customs declaration rules for all travelers entering or leaving South Africa after members asked about them. The service first noted the rules on July 8 in a blog and the August Safari Times. Hunters care most about firearm and currency declarations for safaris.
The digital customs form applies only to permanent firearm imports. Temporary safari imports skip it and use the standard airport declaration to South African police for temporary permits. Currency or negotiable instruments over the legal threshold require declaration, possibly with details on type, amount, rand value and source. Up to one hundred thousand rand in such items can enter or leave without prior approval. Permanently imported goods have a five thousand rand duty-free allowance per person. Extra up to twenty thousand rand may incur duty and VAT. Over twenty five thousand rand total means full duties and VAT. Ordinary personal effects need no declaration but excess items or those needing review do.
