Upgrades planned for OR Tambo

According to Southern & East African Tourism Update, OR Tambo International Airport plans passenger infrastructure upgrades over the next three years including bigger retail and rest spaces, restroom renovations, new Terminal A busing gates, and a mezzanine addition.
Airport restrooms will get full makeovers with new floor tiles, replacement toilets and sinks plus lighted mirrors. Phase one stands at 98 percent complete and the final handover occurs this month. Phase two obtained spending approval after bid specification ended and heads to market on August 14.
Updates to food, beverage and retail will stretch past the duty-free zone in Terminal A onto the mezzanine due for finish in December 2028 that brings more seating plus commercial areas. Those waiting sections seek to grow capacity lift comfort and lower crowding at gates with seating tied to shops and eateries along with device charging spots.
Six additional busing gates for Terminal A have design work ending October 2026 then construction from June 2027 until August 2029. The architectural model is complete. Airport functions and traveler movement face no interruption during the work.
